MPs submit impeachment motions in LS and RS for removal of Justice Varma

Several Members of Parliament today submitted a memorandum to the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to remove Justice Yashwant Varma. A total of 145 Lok Sabha members have signed the impeachment motion against Justice Verma under Articles 124, 217, and 218 of the Constitution.

MPs from various parties, including from BJP, Congress, TDP, JDU, JD(S), Jan Sena Party, AGP, Shiv Sena (Shinde) and CPM have signed the memorandum. The signatories of the memorandum include BJP MPs Anurag Singh Thakur, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Supriya Sule of NCP-SCP among others. The Parliament will inquire into the matter related to the recovery of cash at the residence of Justice Yashwant Varma.

Meanwhile, during the proceedings, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar today said that he has received a motion for the removal of Justice Yashwant Varma. He said, a motion for the removal of Justice Yashwant Varma has been signed by more than 50 members of Rajya Sabha.

Earlier, members of the Rajya Sabha also raised the matter of urgent importance under Special Mention. Later the House was adjourned for the day.
